Recently, the Pre-Kindergarten classes received a real treat in library specials. Local needleworker, Edna Weingartner, knitted a caterpillar to mimic the one in the book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. She even knitted each piece of food that the little caterpillar munched on throughout the book. This last week, when the Pre-Kindergarten classes came to the library, Pauls Valley Elementary librarian, Alaina Chronister, read the book to them. Each student was given one of the pieces of hand-knitted food items before beginning, and as Mrs. Chronister read what the caterpillar was eating, that student brought their food item up and “fed” the caterpillar. As each student fed the caterpillar, it grew and grew. The students loved every minute of this! Pauls Valley Elementary is so appreciative of local crafter, Edna Weingartner!
